Stage-by-Stage Selection
- Phase I (Preliminary): Online objective exam (200 marks). Qualifying only. NABARD shortlists approximately 20–25 times vacancies for Phase II across all streams. Category-wise and stream-wise cutoffs applied.
- Phase II (Mains): Two descriptive papers (200 marks combined). Paper I is English Writing Skills for all streams. Paper II is stream-specific (ESI/ARD for General; Agriculture for Agriculture stream; specialist subjects for others). Shortlists approximately 3–5 times vacancies for Interview.
- Interview: 25 marks. Panel of senior NABARD officials. Tests domain expertise, NABARD awareness, rural development knowledge, and candidate personality suitability.
- Document Verification: Graduation certificate, category certificate, and specialist stream qualification certificates verified before joining order.

Career Progression
- Grade A (Assistant Manager) → Grade B (Manager) → Grade C (Deputy General Manager) → Grade D (General Manager) → Grade E (Chief General Manager) → Grade F (Executive Director)
- Promotion to Grade B typically in 4–6 years
- Opportunities for foreign training, World Bank/ADB secondment, and RBI interaction roles at senior grades
