Stage-by-Stage Selection
- Phase I: Online objective exam (200 marks, qualifying). Category-wise and stream-wise cutoffs applied. Shortlists approximately 10–15 times vacancies for Phase II.
- Phase II: Two descriptive papers (200 marks combined). Paper I is English Writing Skills. Paper II is stream-specific (DBS/Finance/IT/Research). Shortlists approximately 3–5 times vacancies for Interview.
- Interview: 30 marks, contributing 30% to final merit. Panel of senior NABARD officials and domain experts. Tests work experience, domain depth, NABARD's operational knowledge, and managerial potential. Duration: 20–30 minutes.
- Document Verification: Work experience certificates, graduation degree, specialist qualification, and category certificates verified before joining.

Career Progression from Grade B
- Grade B (Manager) → Grade C (Deputy General Manager) → Grade D (General Manager) → Grade E (Chief General Manager) → Grade F (Executive Director)
- Being an external recruit at Grade B, officers typically see faster progression to Grade C than those promoted from Grade A (typically Grade C in 4–5 years vs 7–8 years for Grade A promotees)
