Selection Stages
- Stage 1 – Single Online Exam: 200 marks, 120 minutes. Shortlists candidates for Interview based on overall and sectional cutoffs.
- Stage 2 – Interview: 50 marks. Panel typically includes senior RRB officials, NABARD representatives, or IBA-nominated bankers. Focuses on banking expertise, NPA/credit management, leadership, regulatory compliance, and situational questions relevant to senior management.
- Stage 3 – Language Proficiency Test (if required): Qualifying. Tests local language ability if not already demonstrated through academic certificates.
- Provisional Allotment: Based on 80:20 combined score. State/RRB preferences considered. Final joining formalities at allotted RRB head office or branch.

Career Progression from Scale III
- Scale III (Senior Manager) → Scale IV (Chief Manager) → Scale V (AGM) → Scale VI (DGM) → Scale VII (GM/MD) in 8–15 years

- External deputation to NABARD, RBI, Ministry of Finance for high performers
