RRB NTPC selection spans 4 stages over approximately 12–18 months from notification to joining. CBT 2 is the primary merit determinant; the subsequent stages are qualifying in nature for most posts.
Stage-by-Stage Selection
- Stage 1 – CBT 1: 100 questions, 90 minutes. Shortlists top 20× vacancy candidates (category-wise) per post for CBT 2. CBT 1 marks not included in final merit.
- Stage 2 – CBT 2: 120 questions, 90 minutes (separate papers for Graduate and UG levels). CBT 2 marks determine merit for DV shortlisting. Shortlist ratio: 8 times the post vacancies.
- Stage 3 – Typing Skill Test / CBAT: Required for specific posts. Typing test for typist posts (qualifying, no marks added). CBAT for Station Master (minimum T-Score 42, qualifying).
- Stage 4 – Document Verification: Original documents verified. Medical examination conducted at Railway hospitals for the designated medical standard of the post.
