SSC JHT preparation is unique because Paper II (descriptive) is merit-determining while Paper I is only qualifying. Most candidates who clear Paper I fail to score well in Paper II due to inadequate translation practice. A structured 4-month plan balancing both papers is essential.
Phase 1: Grammar Foundation (Month 1)
- Hindi Grammar: Complete Hardev Bahri's Samanya Hindi – Sandhi, Samas, Karak, Kaal, Vaachya, Upsarg-Pratyay (1 chapter per day)
- English Grammar: Complete S.P. Bakshi grammar sections – Tenses, Articles, Prepositions, Voice, Narration
- Vocabulary (Daily): 15 Hindi Paryayvachi + 15 English synonyms per day. Focus on Muhavare and Lokoktiyan for Hindi.
- Translation Practice (Start Early): Translate 1 newspaper editorial (200 words) daily from English to Hindi from Week 2 onwards. Do not delay Paper II practice.
Phase 2: MCQ Practice + Translation Depth (Month 2)
- Hindi MCQs: Solve 50 Paper I Hindi MCQs daily from SSC JHT PYQs. Focus on Shabd-Shuddhi, Vakya-Shuddhi, and Anekarthi Shabda questions.
- English MCQs: Solve 50 Paper I English MCQs daily – Error Spotting, Para Jumbles, Fill-in-the-Blanks.
- Translation Practice: Increase to 1 full 500-word passage translation daily (alternate English-to-Hindi and Hindi-to-English). Use The Hindu and Dainik Jagran editorials as source material.
- Essay Writing: Write 1 Hindi essay per week (300–400 words). Topics: government schemes, social issues, technology, environment, India's heritage.
Phase 3: Full Mock Tests + Paper II Refinement (Month 3–4)
- Take 2 full Paper I mock tests per week (200 questions, 2 hours). Target: 130+ consistently for General category buffer.
- Write 1 complete Paper II mock per week (both translations + essay + précis in 2 hours timed). Self-evaluate for accuracy, vocabulary range, and idiomatic fluency.
- Précis Practice: Write 3 précis per week (300-word source → 100 words). Focus on retaining key ideas without personal interpretation.
- Revise vocabulary lists weekly. Keep a personal notebook of difficult Hindi administrative terms and their English equivalents.
