The SSC JHT selection process has two paper stages followed by document verification. Since Paper II is merit-determining, translation and writing quality are the most critical factors for final selection. The overall timeline from notification to joining typically spans 12–18 months.
Stage-by-Stage Selection
- Stage 1 – Paper I (CBT): Held online at SSC designated centres. 200 marks (qualifying). SSC declares post-wise and category-wise minimum qualifying marks. Only candidates meeting Paper I cutoff proceed to Stage 2.
- Stage 2 – Paper II (Descriptive): Pen-and-paper exam at designated centres. 200 marks (merit-determining). Tests translation from English to Hindi, Hindi to English, Essay in Hindi, and Précis writing. Final merit is based exclusively on Paper II performance.
- Stage 3 – Document Verification (DV): Selected candidates are called for DV where original certificates (degree, age, category, etc.) are verified. Appointment order is issued post-DV.
