IFoS eligibility differs from CSE primarily in the educational qualification requirement, which mandates a science-based degree. Candidates who do not have an eligible degree cannot apply for IFoS, even if they qualify for CSE.
Nationality
The candidate must be a citizen of India. Tibetan refugees settled before 01-01-1962 and persons of Indian origin from specified countries may also apply subject to Government clearance for certain postings.

Physical Standards
- IFoS officers are required to be in good physical health for field duties in forests and hilly terrain
- Minimum height: 163 cm (male), 150 cm (female)
- Minimum weight and chest requirements as specified in the official notification
- Good near and distant vision (with or without spectacles)
