The ALP application form appears straightforward. Two decisions embedded in it — which RRB zone you choose and which ITI trade you declare — have consequences that surface months later at Document Verification. Getting them wrong is not a correctable typo after the correction window closes; it can end your candidature after clearing four examination stages.
Strategic Decisions Before Filling the Form
RRB Zone Selection: You may apply to exactly one RRB per cycle. All 21 RRBs conduct the same examination — what differs is the posting zone after selection. Apply to the RRB whose zone you want to be posted in. There is no reliable cutoff advantage from choosing a smaller zone; normalization and zone-wise merit lists largely neutralize volume-based assumptions.
ITI Trade Declaration: Your declared trade determines your CBT 2 Part B paper. If you hold multiple qualifications (e.g., Electrician ITI and Mechanical Diploma), choose the trade whose Part B you can clear at 35% with least revision effort. ITI trade papers are typically narrower than Diploma branch papers, making the qualifying threshold practically easier to achieve in some cases.
Step-by-Step Application Process
- Visit the official RRB portal for your chosen zone (e.g., rrbpatna.gov.in, rrbsecunderabad.nic.in). Do not apply through third-party portals.
- New Registration: Enter full name (exactly as in Class 10 certificate), date of birth, email, and mobile. Save your Registration ID and password — required throughout the cycle.
- Fill Application Form: Personal details, educational qualification, community, post preference (ALP and/or Technician), and ITI trade or engineering branch.
- Upload Documents: Photo (20–50 KB, JPG, white background), Signature (10–20 KB, black ink on white), Left Thumb Impression (20–50 KB).
- Fee Payment: ₹500 (General/OBC/EWS), ₹250 (SC/ST/Female/PwBD). Payment via net banking, UPI, or debit/credit card. Keep the receipt.
- Submit and Print: Review all entries before final submission. Save or print the application PDF — your application number is the reference for all future communications.
Application Fee and Refund

|---|---|---|
| General / OBC / EWS | ₹500 | ~₹400 (processing deduction) |
| SC / ST / Female / PwBD | ₹250 | Full refund (₹250) |
Refund is processed automatically post-CBT 1 to the account used for payment. Candidates who do not appear in CBT 1 do not receive the refund, regardless of eligibility.
