Frequently Asked Questions

Q.What is the difference between Part I and Part II registration?

Part I captures basic personal details and generates a Registration ID. Part II is the main application with detailed qualifications, preferences, photo/signature upload, and fee payment. Both must be completed for a valid application.

Q.Can I change my optional subject after Prelims?

Optional subject can be changed only at the DAF (Mains application) stage, within the window UPSC provides. After DAF submission, changes are not allowed.

Q.What happens if I miss the application deadline?

UPSC does not extend deadlines. Candidates who miss the deadline cannot apply for that year's cycle and must wait for the next annual notification.

Q.Is there a fee payment via UPI for UPSC CSE?

UPSC currently accepts payment via SBI Net Banking, Debit/Credit Cards (Visa/Master/RuPay), and SBI Cash Challans at SBI branches. UPI may be added in future; verify on the current notification.
